Antique Appraisals, with Steve Wesely of Cresent Auctioneering, were held on Tuesday evening, July 6th at the Depot and Fires of 1918 Museum.
The session started at 7:00 p.m. outside on the new patio of the Annex. Eight individuals participated. A perfect evening to be outside.

The "first star" of the show was a series of three (3) Old Gold Cigarette Tins. The one round tin was still sealed and contained 50 "regular" cigarettes. It was dated October, 1943. The second large flat tin, which also would have contained 50 cigarettes was from the 1930's. The third was a tin the size of a pack of cigarettes, also for Old Gold. All three containers were in very good condition. The round sealed tins estimated value was $50-75. The large flat tin, $18-20, and the single tin at $8-10. Tobacco items are getting to be very collectible.

The "Second Star" of the show was a "stick and ball" platform rocker, circa 1890. It was in very good condition, it had been recovered, but not refinished. Estimated value $300-400.

A pair of folk art hanging wall items were shown. They were made from ruby red glass saucers, with domed glass pictures of floral arrangements. attached to the centers. Presenters mother had treasured these items to the point of keeping them wrapped up in a drawer. Estimated value $18-24.

A walnut hanging kitchen clock was presented. Estimated age, circa 1900. It was in very good condition, and ran, but presenter didn't wind the striking portion, as it was too noisy. Estimated value $200-275.

A "yellow ware" ceramic spittoon was presented. It was in absolutely mint condition, with no signs that it had ever been used, even for a very brief period of time. If it is an original, its value would be $150-175. Steve felt that it was so perfect, that it most probably was a reproduction, and valued at $20-30.

Two pairs of black memorabilia salt and peppers were shown. One pair was approximately three (3) inches tall, and the other approximately five (5) inches tall. Both were from the 1950's, made in the USA and very collectible. Estimated value on each set $40-50.

A collectors plate "Holly Hobby" pattern from 1962 was shown. It was in very good condition. The problem with collectors edition plates, etc, is that so many are made that their value is somewhat diminished. Estimated value $12-15.

A Sheffield "Swords of Camelot" cutlery set was presented. This item was from the early 1970's. While there were a number of pieces contained in the set, it was in a cardboard case, and them quality of the items was not very good. Estimated value $20-30.

A trio of bulbous pitchers were presented. The were graduated in size, one (1) pint, one (1) quart and (2) quart. The one quart and two quart were stamped with the Heisey logo. Upon investigation, while the smallest pitcher was in a very similar shape and pattern, it was not part of a set. Estimated value on the smallest pitcher, which, by the way showed much wear, was $20-25. On the two larger items, which were in very good condition, showing little evidence of wear, estimated value $300-300 each. Estimated age of these two items was circa 1910.

Remember the Quarterly Meeting on Tuesday, July 20th. Festivities will start at 5:30 p.m. with a band concert performed by the Community Band and an old fashioned ice cream social. The meeting and program will start at 7:00 p.m. Steve Blondo will be doing the program on "The Archeology of the Fire".

The next appraisals will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd at 7p.m. in the evening at the Depot and Fires of 1918 museum. Weather permitting, we will again be meeting on the patio.
